MINISTRY FAIR

The second annual Ministry Fair will be held on May 2nd between services and after the second service. Follow the smell of popcorn and become part of a carnival-like atmosphere where you will find displays, snacks, balloons, and games. This is a great opportunity to learn more about what is happening at Holy Cross. If you attended last year, you know what fun and creativity your council, boards and committees provided as they displayed information about what they do, how they serve, and ways in which you might also participate. Please join this year’s fun!

MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS

mothersdayA banquet will be held on Saturday, May 8th at 6:00 in Luther Hall for all ladies of the church. Bring your mother or daughter or daughter-in-law or grandmother or aunt or niece or best friend or whomever - or just come alone and we'll guarantee you will have great company. The serving will be done by - you guessed it - the men! Entertainment will follow. Mark your calendars for Mother's Day weekend! Watch for the sign-up sheet in the narthex.

Male Help Needed for banquet

waiterIf you are of the male gender and would be willing to help with the Mother and daughter banquet with set-up, food preparation, or clean-up, please contact Pastor Rich.

Commissioning & Installation Services
for Karen Indorf

Following the vote at a special congregational meeting held on March 7, 2004 to issue a call to Karen Indorf to serve at Holy Cross, Karen will be commissioned as an Associate in Ministry at the upcoming New England Synod Assembly. The commissioning service will be held on Friday evening June 4th near Sturbridge Massachusetts (the site of the Assembly). Several people who have been called to serve as pastors in New England will be ordained at the same service. This will be a wonderful time of celebration for our synod, and especially for our congregation. Members of Holy Cross are invited to attend the service and the reception following. Directions will be available through the church office, and you can also leave word at the office if you are interested in exploring the possibility of car pooling with others who will be making the trip.

After Karen’s commissioning as an Associate in Ministry by the New England Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, she will then be officially installed in the local congregation where she has been called to serve. Karen’s installation service at Holy Cross will be held on Sunday June 27, 2004 at 4:00 in the afternoon, also followed by a reception. Please mark the date on your calendar and plan to be with us on the 27th as we celebrate this milestone in Karen’s life and in the life of Holy Cross -- a sign of God’s blessing for us all.

NEW MEMBERS

Eight new members were recently received into membership at Holy Cross. We welcome them to our family in Christ.

The McKim family has recently moved to the New England area from San Diego, Calif. Dan is in the Navy, stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. When not in uniform, he enjoys woodworking. His wife, Sherry, is active in girl scouts and likes to read, sew and ride horses. Their grand daughter, Arianna Sapp, is in the 4th grade at Frisbie School in Kittery and enjoys swimming and scouts. She has been very active in the Holy Cross 3rd-6th grade activity group. The dress she wore on Easter was made by Sherry!

Ingrid Roeder works as a Personal Trainer and will graduate in May with a degree in Fine Arts. She has led our Young at Heart group in movement and stretching exercises. She is considering going to a Lutheran seminary in the Fall of 2005. Her daughter, Spencre McGowen, is an 8th grader at Kennebunk Middle School. She is active in Logos, enjoys snow boarding, and aspires to be an actress.

Three sisters have moved from different parts of the country to live together in Maine and have joined our Holy Cross family. Cathy Norwood is semi-retired and enjoys crafts and gardening. Jenny Gallo likes to paint and decorate and also enjoys craftwork. Trudy Whittington likes to bake and grow flowers. All three sisters have been active in a variety of activities at Holy Cross, sharing graciously of their gifts and talents.

BIBLE SOCIETY OF MAINE

"Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path."   Ps. 109:105

The ministry of the Bible Society provides bibles, tracts, and books for all ages and is one that I believe God has put in my heart to share with you. It accomplishes outreach far and near: prisons, group homes, organizations and even to individuals. We now have a display of wonderful items for sale at discounted prices and some tracts are free. Take a peek and see if there is a blessing for you or someone you know. A box for donations is on the display table and I also have information on giving memorial gifts. If anyone feels so led, I would welcome help with this ministry as well as your prayers. Blessings, Betty Kreie

LIVING OUT GOD'S PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE RETREAT

Living Out God's Purpose for Your Life is about discerning a vision of who we are as individuals and as a community.

It is learning about, not just our talents, but our identity, style, personality, interests, passions, dreams, spirituality.

It is discovering our giftedness and our purpose or call in life. It is about God calling us where we are, in the midst of our ordinary, daily lives, in our jobs and leisure, in our private lives and public service. It is about the Holy Spirit working in us to uncover new possibilities, which lead to greater joy, love, peace, and wholeness. And finally, when we surrender and trust in God’s will for our lives, we experience gratitude for our gifts and can then recognize that we are blessed to be a blessing to others. Because there has been such a positive response, a third retreat, with the theme of Discovering God's Purpose for Your Life, will be held Friday night, May 14th to Saturday afternoon, May 15th at Snobird Lodge in Harrison, The cost of $20 includes breakfast and lunch. Private rooms with very comfortable accommodations are available. For further information talk with Karen or to anyone who has hung a green leaf on the Giving Tree. A sign-up sheet is in the Narthex.

Two Very Special Births for Two Great Grandmothers:

The birth of Noah Aidan Fiske, son of Andrew & Calah Fiske, born in Davenport, Iowa on March 26th, 8 lbs 14 oz. Vi Stephens became a great grandmother with the birth of Noah; Vi will be going to Iowa for a visit in May.

The birth of Zoey Adele Anderson, daughter of Zackery & Alicia Anderson of Deferiet, NY, was born on April 20th. Zoey’s Great grandmother is Barb Nurnberger.

My Heartfelt Thanks!!

I would like to express my gratitude to so many for all the ways of helping to make my recoup time such a meaningful gift. From washing my kitchen floor, re-arranging flowers, washing my hair, emptying garbage, providing food, back rubs, reading to me, listening to taped messages with me, laundry, heat packs and tucking me in, calls, cards, gifts and true caring........ One is especially blessed with such friends and a special husband who attended to my every need. Friends attended to my every need while Bob went back to work for a much needed "vacation!" God has blessed me, learning to be still and to receive has been a challenge, but a true gift.
