Choir
Rehearsal
led by our new Music Director, Gregg Pannier, will take place on Thursdays at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary. This would be a great time
for new people to give choir a try -- maybe that means you! You would
be sure to enjoy Gregg's leadership, and the camaraderie of fellow
choir members.
New
Music Director
On
April 3, 2011, Holy Cross is welcoming our new music director, Gregg
Pannier. Gregg comes to us from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in
Newington, New Hampshire where he was the music director for the past
13 years.
Gregg
was born in the Detroit, Michigan area and raised in northern
Illinois. He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a
Bachelor of Music degree where he majored in music composition, his
major instrument the pipe organ, his minor the piano. He has worked
throughout his life at various churches involving a wide variety of
denominations.
Gregg
will bring many different musical influences to Holy Cross. He has
experience with the traditional Lutheran repertoire but also likes
music styles from the 1930's through the early 1960's. He’s
excited about working with our two different types of church services
and says, “If people don't walk out of the church with more energy
than when they came in, I didn't do my job!”
He
is also hoping to expand the music by asking more people to become
involved with the music program. His hope is to start a youth choir,
encourage more people to cantor at the 8:15 service and help the
adult choir membership to grow. He enjoys encouraging people to
participate in the musical life of the church no matter how much
talent they may possess. Gregg feels what’s most important is that
people sing with heart. He wants people to be excited about
participating and says, “When people start to see excitement in the
choir, they want to join.”
