Opportunities to participate in the musical life of the church:
Choir: 10:45 Sunday - Traditional Service The Choir rehearses
Thursday evenings from 7:00 to about 8:00 p.m. from September through
June, and supplies offertory anthems for the traditional worship
service as well as festival celebrations. Choir members also cantor
the liturgy. We have a great time raising a joyful noise to the Lord,
and we also have great parties at ther King homestead.
Worship Team: 8:15 Sunday - Modern Lutheran Liturgy The
Worship Team rehearses Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m., immediately after
the early worship service. Worship Team members serve as song leaders
and cantors, and are included in the choir parties.
Praise Band: 4:30 Saturday - Informal Worship The
Praise Band rehearses Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. and includes
instrumentalists and vocalists to lead the songs at our informal
Saturday afternoon service. We currently have drums and a saxophone
and clarinetist as well as a few singers, but we can always use more
participation. We'd especially like to have a few more singers, a
guitar, and a bass player. The church has an electric bass, so you
don't even need to bring your own! And, you'll get to come to the
choir parties.
Summer Soloists: 9:45 Sunday - Summer Traditional Service In
the summer time, when the Choir is off-duty, we enjoy having gifted
members and friends of the congregation provide anthems during the
service, either vocal or instrumental. Individuals are invited to
propose music they'd like to offer, or the Music Director will make
suggestions and rehearse with the musician. Naturally, this earns you
an invitation to the choir parties.
Concerts and Special Events: As
well as worship and liturgical music, Holy Cross frequently presents
concerts and other musical events for the community to enjoy, and to
help fund the music program. It was a wonderful thrill when we were
able to replace the ancient Rogers electronic organ with a fine new
Ahlborn-Galanti instrument, "the electronic organ for pipe organ
people." Using music samples from the greatest pipe organs in the
world and a unique windchest speaker system, the Ahlborn-Galanti sounds
just like an authentic pipe organ, so much so that it lured a
professional European concert organist to play several concerts for us,
with another one coming up in June 2010.
